CASE STUDIES

Our focus is on leveraging your existing resources to provide better solutions.

We help our clients focus on the results, e.g. more efficiency and larger profits, not on the methods we use to solve the problems.

The following case studies are real examples of situations we have resolved for clients. These examples are where we have taken the symptoms, illuminated the cause, presented resolutions for the problem and prepared for future needs.

Resource Utilization

Background:

Client is a auto repair shop with 3 PCs, 2 printers and a broadband internet connection.

Initial Problem:

Client reported a printer jamming issue, which was diagnosed and repaired. Although client had 2 printers, only one was in use. All printing was routed through the main PC.

Only the main PC had access to the internet and client stated it would be preferable for assistant, but not auto technicians, to get access.

Replacing one printer with another meant physically lifting and replacing it.

Recommendations:

As both printers are network capable, recommended that they be networked to allow redundancy and reduce workload on main PC.

Install an inexpensive small business, hardware firewall to allow internet connection sharing and provide extra level of security.

Results:

  • Client is able to pass some workload to assistant e.g. online parts ordering.
  • Client can immediately switch back and forth between printers as needed.
  • Auto technicians have access to central files and printers but not internet access.
  • Client reports better performance on main PC as print jobs no longer being routed through PC.
  • Client reports reduced alerts on software firewall on main PC.

Image Streamlining

Background:

Company is an office equipment rental firm. They primarily rent copiers, PCs and laptops to event organizers and hotel audio visual departments.

Initial Problem:

When computer equipment was returned from rental, company policy is to "clean" the equipment by restoring it to original configuration. This was accomplished by using up to seven CDs at the company’s office, taking up to 90 minutes per machine.

Recommendations:

Divide the machine’s hard drives into two partitions and build an image on the first partition.
Copy this onto the second partition.

Build boot disks allowing for quicker partition to partition copies.

Results:

  • Using floppy boot disks, machine restore takes approximately three minutes instead of 90.
  • Restore can happen at rental client’s location, allowing for faster equipment turnaround and higher asset utilization, resulting in higher profits.
